Urithi Housing Coop to put up affordable housing

Urithi Housing Cooperative Society Limited it is set to put affordable housing in Kiambu County dubbed Birmingham Green City.

Features of the city will include two and three bedroom apartments (512) that will be implemented in two separate phases, three and four maisonettes (375) also to be implemented in separate phases as well as three bedroom bungalows complete with DSQs.

The city will also include a network of carbro-paved roads, solar street lighting, a waste treatment plant, manicured lawns and gardens, CCTV alongside contracted security, jogging tracks and a stone perimeter wall complete with electrical and laser fencing.

According to Urithi Society Marketing Director Kelvin Manjari Muthuri, the land is located in Mang’u, Juja just off the Thika Superhighway on Exit 16 and just 4KM from the tarmac road.

The total acreage of the land on which the project is to take place is approximately 200 acres.

“This project is to be implemented on a strategic portion measuring approximately 65 acres with the rest of the parcels being master planned and subdivided as plots for sale,” said the MD.

A 3500 sqm commercial centre for letting spaces combined with other commercial spaces outside plus a commercial children’s park for recreational activities has been set aside.

Individuals and companies will have the opportunity to purchase designated private developer sites to put up either a church or conference facility.

The city will have similarly themed units to create a homogenous aesthetic look for its development.

There is also provision for public amenities including an educational centre, health care facility as well as a police post.

“Urithi has thought wholesomely on how to redefine Thika town and its resident’s lifestyle that will change their living standards as has happened in Kigali, Rwanda,” said Muthuri.

On Birmingham City, Muthuri said industrialists will be invited to invest in the Birmingham Green City. The society will in this venture by providing incentives to the investors.

The MD said as a result, there will be demand for workers’ as well as residential houses in the vicinity. “This is why we want to position our members in an economically striking distance where they will reap maximum benefits from their investments,” said the society boss.
