Kenyans are now being warned that rivers from Chyulu and Eastern Mau Forest water tower might soon dry up.
A report from the Water Tower Agency made public Friday indicates that massive destruction that has taken place in Chyulu and East Mau water towers has affected several rivers and initial water sufficient areas are now is crisis.
Crisis looms with onset of drought as the Kenyan water towers agency now reports that several rivers in Chyulu and Eastern Mau forests that serves Taita-taveta, Mombasa, Makueni, Narok, Nakuru, Kajiado counties have dried up.
Grim statistics released by Kenya water tower agency Friday revealed that massive destruction is on-going that includes charcoal burning, illegal logging, encroachment of water lands, forests fires and dwindling forest cover.
The move has seen water rations in towns that have never had such water crisis.
All finger blaming settlers in Mau, sour millers, pastoralists, charcoal stakeholders and the communities living around the water towers.
To mitigate the situation the Kenya water tower agency wants revocation of licenses of sour millers carrying out illegal logging, audit all community forests service groups, replanting of tress and implementing water conservation policies.
Receiving the report Forestry and Environment CS Keriako Tobiko says a task force that will include players from key ministries and those from public prosecution has already been set up to embark on investigation.
Tobiko says his ministry will ensure the report is implemented to the later.
