The High Court has nullified the August 8th election of Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti.
Judge Joseph Karanja on Tuesday found that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not conduct a free and fair election.
The case had been filed by Awiti’s challenger and independent candidate Oyugi Magwanga.
Magwanga was contesting his win in the August 8 election citing massive rigging which affected the results.
According to Judge Karanja, Magwanga provided enough evidence.
The court has since ordered IEBC to conduct a repeat election that meets the threshold set in the Constitution and election laws.
