Eleven envoys to Kenya have called on NASA leader Raila Odinga to recognize the legitimacy of President Uhuru Kenyatta to pave way for dialogue.

The envoys who described Kenya’s democracy as one that is at cross roads further called on President Kenyatta to uphold the rule of law and stop the purge on the media and the Opposition.

Led by US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, the envoys expressed concern at the recent political activities which include the controversial swearing in of NASA leader Raila Odinga and the subsequent purge on the opposition and the media by the state.

In a statement signed by Godec and other envoys from nations within Europe, the diplomats further called on Raila to recognize the legitimacy of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government to pave way for dialogue.

The envoys warning NASA against stoking violence or trying seize power through extra-constitutional means.

While they insist that they will not meddle in Kenya’s internal affairs, the envoys are pushing for an open national conversation meant to address long standing issues afflicting the country and at the same time foster national cohesion.

And few days after the government shut down three television stations for televising Raila’s oathing ceremony, the envoys are also calling on President Kenyatta to stop the purge on the media and the Opposition, equally citing the recent controversial deportation of lawyer Miguna Miguna to Canada.

And with the ongoing political grandstanding, the political leadership in the country has joined the envoys in calling for dialogue.

Tharaka Nithi County Governor Muthomi Njuki and Senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki say it is only talks hat will guarantee the country the much needed stability and development.

According to the two leaders, it will be almost impossible to unite the country in the midst of the deep rooted ethnic divisions and suspicion among Kenyans and their leaders.
