Police have intercepted a cache of arms suspected to belong to the Al-Shabaab militia group in Meriti, Isiolo.
During the massive operation, one suspect was killed, one other was arrested while the other managed to escape.
The police foiled the planned terror attack and recovered explosives and improvised electronic devices. Detonators, mobile phones, knives and fire arms were also seized.
Police were acting on intelligence gathered locally and from sources in Somalia.
The authorities have also impounded a vehicle wired with the explosives that was to be used by the suspects who were planning to stage a deadly terror attack.
Preliminary investigations show the suspects had contacts in Nairobi whom the police are following closely. The targets of the attack are yet to established.
Reports indicate the wiring and assembling of the vehicle with detonators and explosives concealed in the bonnet was done at an Al Shabaab base in El Adde, Somalia.
The suspected terrorists engaged police officers in a fire exchange who had trailed their vehicle from the Kenya- Somali boarder to Meriti in Isiolo. Some of the police officers sustained minor injuries.
The successful operation is a big win in the ongoing war against terror due to collaboration between security and intelligence agencies.
